Tower Hamlets’ Ex-Mayor Received Summons for Not Paying Council Tax

Councillor Ahmed Omer claimed the issue had now been settled, and the council’s Labour group stood by him. He suggested “personal difficulties” were behind his failure to pay up last year. The former mayor says that he is not denying the accusations, but he has resolved the matter in hand and all his taxes have been paid.

Accoding to the cleaners in Tower Hamlets ,the Labour group also responded with official statement “The Labour Party believes it is unacceptable for councillors not to meet their obligations, particularly paying their council tax. The controversy in this situation is that councillors, who haven't paid their council taxes have no right to vote on town hall budgets. Yet Mr. Omer has managed to exercise his vote, as the summon against home was not concluded in time.
